How We Are

Cross River State College of Nursing Sciences, Itigidi — quality education for quality service.

Who we are

About CONSIT College

Cross River State College of Nursing Sciences, Itigidi (CONSIT) is a leading institution dedicated to the education, training, and development of competent nursing and allied healthcare professionals. Located in Itigidi, the headquarters of Abi Local Government Area of Cross River State, the College has remained a centre of excellence in nursing education, producing highly skilled practitioners who contribute significantly to healthcare delivery across Nigeria and beyond.

The College traces its origin to the visionary efforts of the Hospital Management Committee of Eja Memorial Joint Hospital, Itigidi, which identified the need to train qualified nursing personnel to meet the growing healthcare needs of the community. Following approval by the Cross River State Ministry of Health in 1976, the institution was established through the collective support of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, the Itigidi community, and the State Government. Academic activities commenced in 1981 after receiving provisional approval from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).

Over the years, the College has demonstrated remarkable resilience and growth. Through the commitment of the Cross River State Government, the support of development partners including the World Health Organization (WHO), and the dedication of successive administrations, the institution successfully regained accreditation after a period of regulatory suspension and was granted full accreditation by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria in 2018.

In response to the evolving landscape of nursing education and the introduction of the National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) framework, the Cross River State Government transformed the institution into the Cross River State College of Nursing Sciences, Itigidi (CONSIT). This transition aligns the College with national educational standards and reflects its expanded mandate to provide high-quality education in Nursing, Midwifery, Public Health Nursing, and other healthcare-related disciplines.

Today, CONSIT offers accredited academic programmes that combine rigorous classroom instruction with extensive clinical training, research, community engagement, and practical experience. Guided by the curriculum of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria and other relevant regulatory bodies, the College equips students with the knowledge, technical skills, professional ethics, and critical thinking abilities required to thrive in an increasingly dynamic healthcare environment.

With the motto "Quality Education for Quality Service," CONSIT is committed to its vision of training knowledgeable and skillful nurses to meet the health needs of clients in a pluralistic society, while pursuing its mission of preparing competent, polyvalent nurse practitioners who advance healthcare delivery in line with globally accepted best practices.

The College provides a conducive learning environment supported by experienced faculty, modern teaching facilities, simulation laboratories, accredited clinical training centres, digital learning technologies, and a student-centred approach to education. Through continuous innovation, strategic partnerships, research, entrepreneurship, and community service, CONSIT continues to produce graduates who are professionally competent, ethically grounded, digitally equipped, and ready to make meaningful contributions to healthcare at the local, national, and international levels.

As a forward-looking institution, Cross River State College of Nursing Sciences, Itigidi remains steadfast in its commitment to academic excellence, professional integrity, innovation, and the development of future healthcare leaders dedicated to improving the health and well-being of individuals, families, and communities.

“To train knowledgeable and skillful nurses to meet the health needs of clients in a pluralistic society.”
